Choose a sustainable venue

Purpose-built in 2017, eco-friendly credentials guided the creation of Chalk Barn at every stage of the design. The huge windows open up incredible views, while also making use of warming solar gain. The rest of our heating is provided by a biomass boiler and the barn is superbly insulated.

Throw in the fact that we’re powered by renewable energy and you’ll soon discover that we offer green weddings in serious style.

Look for local suppliers

You’ll be supporting the local area and economy by choosing regional vendors. That means you get a true taste of the area that is about to set the scene for your most important day.

At Chalk, we stock a delightful range of local, artisan spirits and craft beers behind the bar and encourage couples to use locally sourced produce wherever possible. It only seems right, seeing as we’re a Wiltshire wedding venue located on a family-run organic farm!

Scale back your travel time

When you set out on your venue hunt, one of the first challenges is to set a search area. Do you want to marry close to wherever home is right now? Where you grew up? Close to friends and family or a favourite holiday destination?

Whether you’re reducing your own travel miles or those of your guests, choosing a venue with a short commute will immediately reduce the carbon footprint of your wedding.

A Wiltshire wedding venue within easy reach of the A303, Chalk Barn is a short journey for guests travelling from Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Hampshire.

Use recycled products

When you post 100 invitations, each enclosed in an envelope, the sheer volume of paper alone is quite staggering. Lessen the impact by working with stationers and paperies with eco-friendly practices – this may be sourcing paper from sustainably managed woodland or opting for already once-recycled card.

Enjoy the best of British blooms

This one doesn’t just apply to your bouquet and arrangements, it goes for your confetti too. There are several British businesses who specialise in growing flower petal confetti, which is both beautiful and biodegradable.

When it comes to your wedding flowers, pay a visit to local florists and chat to them about how they work. Many will use exclusively seasonal, British-grown blooms if you ask.

Some even have their own flower fields – try My Flower Patch, one of our recommended suppliers, for Wiltshire weddings.

Taking steps to create a more eco-friendly Wiltshire wedding is simpler than you think. Join us at our Wedding Showcase on Sunday 24th February to experience first-hand the uniquely luxurious approach to a sustainable wedding that Chalk Barn promises.
